Through our collaboration with the ‘Waste Free Oceans (WFO)’ organization, we proudly offer a collection of Sidepigs and Whalechairs crafted from discarded and lost fishing nets recovered from our precious oceans.
WFO x WERKWAARDIG
At Werkwaardig, we are committed to creating products that not only enhance your space but also contribute to a cleaner and healthier planet. Through our collaboration with the ‘Waste Free Oceans (WFO)’ organization, we are proud to offer a collection of Sidepigs and Whalechairs made from discarded and lost fishing nets recovered from our precious oceans.
Since 2011, WFO has been at the forefront of marine remediation actions, engaging dedicated fishermen, volunteers, and industry partners around the world to clean up rivers, lakes, seas, oceans, beaches, and riversides. Using specially designed trash catchers, fishermen collect significant amounts of marine litter during their journeys in hotspot areas, making a remarkable impact in the fight against marine pollution.
The collected fishing nets undergo an extensive process of inspection, separation, and rough cleaning. The sorted nets, available in various shades of green and blue, are then transformed into a usable raw material for rotational moulding. This transformation not only prevents plastic waste from ending up in landfills or marine environments but also converts it into a valuable resource for circular product design.
By collaborating with WFO, Werkwaardig brings forth an innovative variation of their Sidepig and Whalechair, meeting the highest standards of quality and safety while embracing sustainability. The close collaboration between Werkwaardig and Waste Free Oceans is a perfect example of such horizontal co-creation and partnership.
The colors featured in our collections crafted from this material include oceanblack, seagreen, and navyblue.
Our Recycling Program
We care about the environment, and that’s why we offer a special program for our Sidepig, Whalechairs and Round Clock.
These products are made from recycled or recyclable polyethylene, a type of plastic that is 100% recyclable. This means that the material that has been used in these products can be transformed into a new raw material, giving it a second life. So, if you ever decide to dispose of your product, you can send it back to us free of charge. This helps us to give the product a second life and keep the environment clean.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Send It back: Please send us an email with the information about your product. You will find this information by clicking on the ‘return my product’ button. After reviewing your email, we will send you a digital shipping label. You can then use this to take your product to your local parcel office. We’ll take care of the rest.
2. Recycling: Once we receive your product, your product will be turned into tiny pieces called re-granules. These re-granules can be used to make new products.
3. New Life: The re-granules become a ‘new’ raw material that our manufacturing facility uses to make new products. This way, your old product gets a new life.
